Hey everyone! Molly here!
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of photographing Jess and Rick’s perfectly intimate wedding on the beach in Port St. Joe. We met Jess a few months ago, where she filled us in on her life with Rick and their dogs Willow and Zoey. I found out that they had actually been married on a beach in Washington State about a year and a half ago, but they were sharing a Quaker style wedding with their friends and family at the beach. More on that in a minute. I was a little nervous meeting Rick. He’s a rocket scientist! How cool is that? So I thought…what could a rocket scientist be like? I knew he would be a cool guy..after all, he helped pick out the gown and was the one who knew how to bustle it. We met him in the dark when we were trying to find the bon fire they invited us to the night before the wedding. “Hello!! ” he shouted from the deck. And then he came down and gave us all hugs and we chatted in the freezing cold while we met their friends. How down to earth. I was starting to love Jess and Rick and their interesting life . I knew I loved them when I began to photograph them!! See proof below.
Ok….Back to the Quaker style wedding. I had a lot of questions about the wedding, so I would love to tell more of you about it, as it was one of the most unique weddings we’ve photographed. The first thing I noticed was that these two were escorted in by both of their parents. There was no wedding party or officiant, just friends and family welcoming them into marriage. There was no timeline of when someone should speak or sing or traditions that had to be done..just celebrations. There were moments of silence, and a time when Jess and Rick exchanged promises. A lot of people got up and shared stories, wishes, and songs. Her mom got up and read allowed the marriage certificate, which was signed by friends and family and A LOT prettier than the court house certificate ;). When asked when the ceremony would be over, she wrote “when if feels right”. How fantastic !
(If I left something out, let me know!)
