Triston & Jaxson stole my heart

Hey Everyone! Molly here!

So, I’m about to get a little sappy… like a pine tree. For that, I apologize. This is also the abridged version of the Nikki and Molly saga.

You see, I became good friends with Nikki when I was in high school. We made up nick-names for each other, and I was known as “Killa'” for several years. She didn’t slap me when I asked 400 questions about black peoples’ hair.  We terrorized our science teacher and other shenanigans .  After high school, we lost touch a bit. One day, while I was riding the bus to one of my classes at GCSU, she called me out of the blue. I was so excited to be back in touch with her.

She kept saying she was going to come see me, and I thought, “Yeah right. No one ever comes to see me.”  Then she actually brought her boyfriend to meet me. We sat and ate wings at Amici’s, and I thought they were perfect for each other.  She sang to us at our wedding reception, and she has an amazing voice (my dad thought it was a recording so he didn’t film it).   Then, in October 2008, we photographed their wedding.  It was awesome to be a part of it..behind the scenes, of course.  Needless to say, she’s been like a sister to me. She is the only one of my friends from home who ever came to see me in college or came to my big senior show. I know I can always count on her, and well… that’s rare in a person.

ANNNNYWAYYY.. About a year ago, Nikki had some health problems.  Doctors found a cyst in her brain, and shortly after that (because of unrelated health issues) doctors told her she wouldn’t be able to have children.  Now, Nikki is one of the most optimistic people I have ever known, but when you get two blows to your soul like that it’s hard.  Needless to say, there were many many prayers. A few months later, she was surprised to find out that she was pregnant! Okay..not just pregnant.. pregnant WITH TWINS. So I cried and she cried, and I thanked God.  Then another month or so went by and she found out that the cyst in her brain was completely GONE.  So I thanked God again. Anyway, on top of that miracle, have come several more. She’s a blessed person, and she deserves every bit of it.

Fast- Forward to February 18th..Nikki’s sister texted me to let me know they were having to do a c-section. I was scared and excited, but I couldn’t decide if I should drive up that night because we had a bridal show to do that Sunday.  I hesitated just long enough for my husband to have already packed an overnight bag for me.  I drove to Warner Robins just in time to see a nurse holding Jaxson by one leg and hosing him off. They were here! I didn’t cry.. which surprised me.  I was just happy.  The babies were great weights. 6 and 7 pounds for premature twins!

The next day, my happiness turned into worry when we woke up to find out Jaxson had been put into NICU overnight. He was being transported to another hospital 45 minutes away.  They said his lungs were underdeveloped, and that some medicine would fix him right up. It was all I could do to keep from bawling when they wheeled that tiny baby in the hospital room attached to a giant ventilator.  It didn’t sound like a big deal. It sounded like something that had happened often. I knew that the lungs are one of the last things to develop so it wasn’t really a surprise that they would have a little bit of trouble.  I hated to see Nikki upset at having to saying goodbye to her new sweetie, but I really thought he would be fine.  So I hugged her goodbye, and drove back to Valdosta.

Then, I found out that Jaxson had taken a turn for the worse. He had a hole in his lung, which caused air to get in his chest cavity.  Suddenly, it was serious, and I hated that I couldn’t be with Nikki or Jeremy. They had to transport Jax to a hospital in Augusta, and Nikki couldn’t go. I know she was devastated. Luckily, they have great moms and family members who were willing to help out and drive back and forth.  Soon, she and Triston went home and welcomed Jaxson home about a week later.

They are healthy and happy and are absolute miracle babies.  I love this little family to death. God is good.

Here are 3 from the night they made their grand entrance. Triston is on the left, Jaxson is on the right.

I, of course, can’t stay away from them. I went back a few days after Jaxson was home for their 2 week photos.

Meet Triston. He’s going to be a fighter…a ninja of sorts.

Meet Jaxson. This is the little guy that had so much trouble. I feel like he’s going to be the logical one.

Nikki and Jeremy are both doing great with the new mom and dad responsibilities (with the help of Nana and Auntie Gadda).

I love their baby lips and cheeks.

On a side note… when I was 15 or 16, Nikki’s brother (who was 8 at the time) tried to teach me how to do the harlem shake.  It was totally unsuccessful. It looked something like this :       (WARNING…THIS VIDEO IS MUCH MORE PLEASANT ON MUTE…but funnier with the volume all the way up)
